I waited for him outside the coffee shop.
He handed me a cup of latte and a small brown bag. I took a peek, it was a cinnamon bun. I smiled and raised my eyebrow.
“You’re welcome” he said as we walked down the streets.
We sipped our coffee and sat by the river banks
“You didn’t like coffee”
…I kind of hated it. Coffee tastes good now. Adults drink coffee, you see? You’re looking at one now
“..Talk about change” he sipped his coffee.
We looked at our coffee cups.
“You remember the first time we met?”
Ugh, seriously? This is how we’re gonna do thi..?
“You were this kid with a backpack, funny looking bangs, you looked like you were thrown straight out of a comic book. You wouldn’t last a day here”
Well I proved you wrong. Ha!
“I didn’t know what was going on in that head of yours. All I know is that you’re happy. A little too happy, sometimes”
‘Too’ happy?
“Yeah, you and your dreamy-land, living life as if you’re neighbors with Winnie the Pooh or something” he laughed
You should meet more of our kind. We’re a lot fun to be with.
“Yeah, your kind who’s no longer here. And now you’re having a tough time just being alone with me”
Well…things get a bit weird when it’s just you and me, I gotta admit.
“……It’s years later, I no longer see that silly bangs of yours. You still wear that backpack. Right. But the thing is, I no longer see you as this high-on-sugar, happy, happy, kid”
I seem… less happy? Is it a bad thing?
“Not necessarily. I’m looking at an adult with her cup of coffee” he smiled.
I find it weird being with you, you know… spending time, just the two of us.
“Ok. What about it?”
I guess I never see you like this before.
“Cold, gloomy, bitter?”
No, no, I knew that.
“Snobbish?”
Your personal brand.
“Ok, I’m out”
You were…….quiet.
“I had to be”
You always seem to be on the move. But, then, one day, you stopped moving.
“Yes, again, I had to”
Then, I too stopped moving.
“You, who were always on the move”
Right. But, after a while, you started moving.
“And you’re still on your pause?”
Yes.
“Is there anything wrong with that?”
I don’t know.
“I guess we learned new things about each other”
Yes.
“And I don’t see anything wrong with that”
